Visitors and residents in Jilin city in Northeast China's Jilin province were delighted recently to witness a breathtaking spectacle as Rime Island there welcomed its first rime for 2023.

Rime is a special type of frost – granular tufts of ice – that appears only when atmospheric conditions are right and water vapor meets cold air. In autumn and winter, mist condenses in the form of frost which engulfs the surrounding branches when it's hyper cold, creating the natural phenomenon.

Located in the heart of the city, Rime Island showcases the mesmerizing beauty of these delicate ice formations. Snowflake-like patterns adorned the island's trees and grass, creating a winter wonderland straight out of a fairy tale.
