The first Songhua Lake Fish Culture Festival opened on July 7 in Jilin city – which is located in Northeast China's Jilin province – and will run for nearly two months, according to local media reports.
This year's event features a variety of appealing activities, including Songhua River scenic tours and special tastings of Songhua fish delicacies.
Through a combination of solicitation, online voting and expert evaluation, the high-quality fish dishes representing Jilin city will be selected and included in the Songhua Lake Gold Medal Whole Fish Feast.
The event will also select three Gold Medal Fish Restaurants and five Gold Medal Fish Chefs to be food guides for the general public and tourists.
As the venue of the festival, the Fengman district of Jilin city has extensive cultural and tourism resources. As a result of years of construction and development, three major fish cultural belts have been formed along the Songhua River.
