Jilin city in Northeast China's Jilin province reported 2,601 new locally transmitted COVID-19 cases and 979 asymptomatic carriers on March 14.
As of 24:00 on March 14, Jilin city has reported a total of 6,418 infections, including 4,079 confirmed cases and 2,339 asymptomatic infections.
On March 13, 10 more areas in Jilin city were added to the medium-risk area list. Previously, the city has designated one high-risk area and 15 medium-risk areas.
To help curb the spread of the epidemic in the province, Changchun and Jilin cities are accelerating the construction of makeshift hospitals.
In Jilin city, three makeshift hospitals with 1,200 beds have been created for asymptomatic carriers and some confirmed patients with mild symptoms, according to the local government.
Another three makeshift hospitals with around 10,000 beds and a makeshift site with 6,000 spaces for quarantine are also under construction.
