Yanji city – located in the Yanbian Korean autonomous prefecture, in Northeast China's Jilin province – is now well on its way to becoming a national characteristic tourist destination.

Plans are for it to further raise its profile in the national tourism industry, in the wake of the city recently being chosen by the State Council – China's Cabinet – as one of the national characteristic tourist destination development cities, according to local media reports.

With its well-known red tourism, folk tourism and ice and snow tourism, Yanji was the only city in Jilin province that made it onto the list of cities.
