Foreign friends living in Northeast China's Jilin province recently had a ball learning how to do Chagan Lake fish skin painting, an art form recognized as an item of provincial intangible cultural heritage.

Getting a thumbs-up from the participants, the hands-on experience was described by one expat, Helen, as being "the very first time and an unusual experience".

Chagan Lake in Jilin province is famous for its fishing and hunting traditions. This unique way of life has given rise to a unique form of intangible cultural heritage known as fish skin art. The finished products from Chagan Lake's fish skins include fish skin paintings, pendants, ornaments and household items.
