Changbai Mountain is located on the border between China and North Korea. Its west half belongs to China and the east half to North Korea. It's possible to visit it from its north and west visiting routes, which are in China. The distance between the entrances of the two visiting routes is about 110 kilometers, which takes 2 hours by car. Therefore, when it comes to the time needed and the possible ways to visit Changbai Mountain, it's necessary to take the different entrances into account.

All of the cities around Changbai Mountain, such as Changchun, Tonghua, Jilin, and Yanji in Yanbian Korean autonomous prefecture, have airports that accommodate smaller airplanes and bus connections to the mountain. Since Yanji lies closest to the entrance to the mountain (the bus ride from Yanji to Changbai Mountain takes about 4 hours), it is usually visitors' first choice.

Flight to Changbai Mountain

At present, Baishan Changbaishan Airport (Changbaishan Airport) is operating well in the region, and its high speed railway station is under construction and is expected to be opened in 2021.

Changbaishan Airport is about 17 km, or half an hour by car, from the entrance to the West Slope (the west visiting route) and about 110 km or 2 hours from the entrance to the North Slope (the north visiting route). Its scheduled flights are limited. But there are direct flights between Changbai Mountain and Beijing (2 hours) and Shanghai (2.5 hours).

Train to Changbaishan

Since its own railway station is still under construction, visitors travelling to Changbai Mountain by train are required to arrive at a nearby city first and then drive to the destination for sightseeing.

To North Slope:

The closest railway station to the North Slope is Baihe Railway Station. About one kilometer away from the station, there is a Chibei Tourist Transfer Center, from where you can reach the North Slope by tourist bus.

To West Slope:

The closest station to the West Slope is Songjianghe Railway Station. After arriving there you can take a taxi to go to the Chixi Tourist Transfer Center, and then go to the West Slope by tourist buses.

The two railway stations mentioned above operate normal trains to Changbai Mountain from Shenyang and Dalian cities in Northeast China's Liaoning province. High-speed trains are only found at Dunhua Railway Station, which is about 3 hours by car to the North Slope and has bullet trains from Beijing (8.5 hours), Jilin (1 hour) and Changchun (1.5-2 hours).

Private Car to Changbai Mountain

Visitors who plan to go to more destinations in Northeast China like Harbin, capital city of Jilin province, after or before the visit of Changbai Mountain, had better rent a private car in advance. There is no flight or high speed train available for them to travel to these places, and the normal trains will take up a lot of time.
