Tourists got a chance to enjoy both summer and winter scenery recently as they visited Changbai Mountains Scenic Area in Jilin province.

While the flowers have been in full bloom at the foot of the mountain, the frozen Tianchi Lake, located at the top of the volcanic cone of the main peak of Changbai Mountain, remains covered with snow.

"After a heavy snow recently, the average depth of snow on the main peak reached more than 1 meter," said Wu Jinming, a staff member at the scenic area. "As the temperature is lower than the same period of previous years, the lake will begin to melt later this year."

It was expected to melt completely around May 17, and visitors will have a different feeling then, he added.
