Ji Opera, a typical local opera in Jilin province, is based on er ren zhuan, a genre of local folk dance and song popular in Northeast China.

Baicheng has cultivated a large number of outstanding Ji Opera playwrights, composers, performing artists, and directors, including Chang Weiqi, Zhang Guoqing, Yang Qingbao, and Gou Lihua.

In 2013, Baicheng Ji Opera Troupe Co was designated as part of the first group of six Ji Opera creation and performance bases in Jilin province.

The revitalization of Ji Opera was included in the 2014 Baicheng Government Work Report.
