Discovered for the first time in June 2019, the Changbai Mountain Laohei River Site is located deep in the dense forest of the southern area of Changbai Mountain, some 13.2 km southeast from the city center.

It is a well-preserved, uniquely shaped and massive complex of war relics, with a total area of 2.25 square kilometers. It includes a main city covering 22,000 sq m and a subsidiary city spanning over 8,000 sq m.

In the vicinity, there are scattered fortifications, trenches, forward command posts, integrated residential and combat structures, as well as the site of the Second Army Headquarters of the Northeast Anti-Japanese United Army.
